A private ski instructor is the fastest way to learn to ski or take your technique to the next level – whether you are three years old or fifty. At Premiere Ski School in the High Tatras we have gone all in on private lessons: we do not offer group courses at all, because one-on-one coaching delivers progress that is hard to match in a large group. In this article you will learn what private lessons bring to kids and adults, exactly how much they cost, and how to book one in Tatranská Lomnica or Starý Smokovec.
Why private lessons beat group classes
Think back to a typical group lesson: one instructor, a crowd of people at different levels, and a lot of standing in line waiting for your turn. The time somebody actually spends on you is only a fraction of the hour you paid for. In a private lesson the instructor belongs to you alone – every turn, every stance and every little mistake gets instant feedback.
- 100% of the instructor's attention – no waiting in line, you ski the whole lesson.
- Mistakes corrected immediately – bad habits are fixed before they set in.
- Your own pace – nobody slows you down or rushes you.
- Tailored content – from your very first steps on skis all the way to carving.
The result is progress that would take considerably longer in a group. If you want to see what the first days on the slope look like step by step, read our guide on how to learn to ski.
Your pace, your plan
Everyone learns differently. Some people need more time to find their balance and confidence; others master the snowplough in half an hour and want to move on. A private instructor adapts the lesson precisely to your level, fitness and goals – and adjusts the plan on the fly whenever needed. You never have to keep up with the strongest member of a group or wait for the weakest; the lesson revolves around you.
One-on-one coaching works at every stage: your very first contact with snow, the transition from snowplough to parallel turns, or polishing your carving technique. The instructor discusses your expectations in advance and builds the lesson so that you get the most out of every minute on the slope.
Premiere has more than 30 certified instructors accredited by APUL and over 20 years of experience as a school. Our instructors speak English, Slovak, Czech and Polish, so the language barrier simply does not exist. Client trust is confirmed by a 4.8★ rating from 216 Google reviews.
Private lessons for children from age 3
It is with children that the difference between a group class and a private lesson shows most clearly. A three-year-old needs play, patience and a feeling of safety – not waiting while the instructor deals with other kids. Our instructors teach children from the age of 3, and every child gets a helmet free of charge. For the youngest skiers we recommend the Jakubkova lúka slope in Starý Smokovec next to Hotel Atrium: it is gentle, safe and ideal for complete beginners. The private format also means the lesson can be adjusted to the child's mood at any moment – a break or a game is added whenever needed, and the little skier leaves the slope with joy instead of stress. You can read more in our article on ski lessons for kids, and we introduce the slope itself in our piece on Jakubkova lúka in Starý Smokovec.
Adults and advanced riders: ski and snowboard
Private lessons are far from being just for beginners. A large share of our clients are adults who want to regain confidence after years away from the slopes, get rid of bad habits or finally master a clean carved turn. We teach both skiing and snowboarding, so the whole family will find an instructor here. A private instructor will also help you pick the right terrain for your level and the current conditions on the mountain. Tatranská Lomnica also offers pistes of varying difficulty, so advanced skiers get as much out of a lesson as beginners – you will find an overview of the resort in our article on skiing in Tatranská Lomnica.
How much does a private ski instructor cost?
Unlike many schools, our prices are fully transparent. A private lesson in Tatranská Lomnica costs:
- 60 minutes – €44
- 90 minutes – €63 – the most popular lesson length
- 120 minutes – €77
The price covers one person, and each additional person in the same lesson pays only +€17. Siblings, couples or a group of friends can therefore learn together on very favourable terms. Multi-day tuition earns you an extra discount: −5% for 3 days and −10% for 6 or more days.
In Starý Smokovec a 60-minute lesson also costs €44 and a 120-minute lesson €77. Guests of Hotel Atrium enjoy reduced prices of €37 for 60 minutes and €66 for 120 minutes; an additional person pays +€10 for the one-hour and +€15 for the two-hour lesson. You will find the complete, always up-to-date overview in our price list.

Is a private lesson worth it? Let's do the maths
An hour with a private ski instructor starts at €44 and every minute of it belongs to you. A group class may cost less, but you share the instructor's attention with the whole group – and with two or three people in one private lesson, thanks to the +€17 per-person supplement, the price difference shrinks considerably. If you want your child to fall in love with skiing without tears, or to finally lose your own fear of steeper slopes, a private lesson is the safest investment in your winter holiday. Call +421 911 561 561 and book your instructor in the High Tatras today.
