Ski School Tatras – Guide for Polish Tourists
Why the High Tatras Are Perfect for Polish Tourists
The High Tatras have long been a hugely popular destination for Polish skiers, and in recent years their numbers have been steadily growing. It is easy to see why – from southern Poland, it is closer to Tatranská Lomnica than to many Polish resorts, prices are competitive, and the skiing quality is excellent. For many Polish families, the Slovak Tatras have become the first choice for a winter holiday.
At Premiere Ski School – one of the best ski schools in the Tatras – we welcome Polish guests with open arms. Our instructors speak fluent Polish, so communication takes place without any barriers. We understand Polish culture, know what Polish skiers expect, and adapt to their needs.
Tatranská Lomnica – The Best Resort in the Slovak Tatras
Tatranská Lomnica is the flagship ski resort of the High Tatras, offering world-class skiing beneath the majestic Lomnický Peak (2,634 m above sea level). For Polish skiers, it is a true paradise – modern lifts, excellently prepared trails, and breathtaking views that you will not find at any Polish resort.
The resort offers trails for skiers at every level:
- Buková zone – gentle, wide trails ideal for beginners and families
- Štart zone – intermediate trails for skiers refining their technique
- Skalnaté Pleso zone – advanced trails with a genuine high-mountain experience
In addition to Tatranská Lomnica, we also operate at Jakubkova Meadow in Starý Smokovec – the perfect spot for families with young children and complete beginners. A gentle slope, calm atmosphere, and no crowds – ideal conditions for a first encounter with skiing.

Practical Guide – How to Get Here from Poland
Getting from Poland to the High Tatras is exceptionally simple and quick:
From Kraków: The fastest route goes through Nowy Targ and the border crossing at Łysa Polana/Lysá Poľana. Driving time is just 1.5-2 hours in normal conditions. From Łysa Polana to Tatranská Lomnica is approximately 30 minutes more.
From Katowice: Route through Bielsko-Biała and Kraków, approximately 3-3.5 hours total.
From Warsaw: Best via the A4 motorway to Kraków, then as above. Approximately 5-6 hours total.
Important information for Polish drivers:
- Motorway vignette – an electronic highway vignette (eznámka) is required in Slovakia, purchasable online at eznamka.sk. Do not forget to buy it before crossing the border!
- Currency – Slovakia uses the euro. Card payments are accepted virtually everywhere, but it is worth having some cash for small purchases
- Fuel – fuel prices in Slovakia are similar to Polish prices. There are many petrol stations along the route
- Parking – paid parking is available at both Tatranská Lomnica and Starý Smokovec. During the season it is advisable to arrive early in the morning
Accommodation and Additional Attractions
We recommend staying in Starý Smokovec – the heart of the High Tatras with excellent public transport connections (Tatra Electric Railway) to all resorts. The value for money is best here. Alternatively, accommodation directly in Tatranská Lomnica, though slightly more expensive, eliminates the need for commuting.
Besides skiing, the High Tatras offer Polish tourists plenty of attractions: winter hikes from Hrebienok, the Tatra Ice Cathedral (seasonal), aqua parks in nearby Poprad, excellent Slovak cuisine with halušky and bryndza cheese, and shopping at attractive prices.
Our school is open daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM throughout the winter season. Do not hesitate to contact us in Polish – we will respond quickly and professionally. Welcome to Premiere Ski School in the High Tatras – you will feel right at home!
