What to pack for a child
7Leave the helmet at home, we fit one on the spot.
- base layer, fleece, and a waterproof jacket and trousers
- one thin ski sock, not two thick ones
- mittens for the youngest, gloves for older children

If your child has never been on snow, bring them fed and warmly dressed. The first lesson should be short and end well.

Look for the wooden hut with the Premiere logo right beside Hotel Atrium, at the bottom of the slope. Our instructors wear red suits with PREMIERE across them. If you cannot see us, call and we will come to you.

First lesson
How the first lesson goes
We take children from age 3. Younger ones usually cannot yet listen to an instructor and stand on skis for more than a few minutes.
We teach private lessons only: one instructor per child or per family. The child sets the pace and takes a break when they need one. A parent can join the lesson as a second person.
There is no skiing downhill for the first few minutes. The child walks on skis on the flat, tries short glides and learns to stop in a snowplough. They go on the ski lift only once they can stop on their own.
The youngest learn at Jakubkova lúka in Starý Smokovec. The slope is about 900 m long, almost flat, with a children's ski lift, so there is no T-bar or chairlift to deal with. We also teach children in Tatranská Lomnica, home of our Rossignol Test Center. That works well if someone more experienced is skiing with you.
For children under 6 we recommend 60 minutes, for older ones 90 minutes in Tatranská Lomnica or 120 minutes in Starý Smokovec. We have over 30 ZSL certified instructors and teach in Slovak, Czech, Polish and English. In Tatranská Lomnica you get 5% off 3 lessons and 10% off 6 lessons.
Learning path
What your child will learn, level by level
Levels are named after piste colours. The instructor checks the level in the first few metres. The first two are taught at Jakubkova lúka; from blue we move to Tatranská Lomnica for longer runs and the cable car.
If you are unsure, pick the lower level. Moving a child up during the lesson is easier and more pleasant than the other way round.

Can I be on the lesson with my child?
Yes, as a second person on the private lesson, or you can watch from the slope. Small children often learn better alone with the instructor.
