Snowboard Courses Tatras – Learn to Snowboard in the High Tatras
Snowboarding in the High Tatras – Why Here
The High Tatras are not just a paradise for skiers – they are also an excellent destination for snowboarding. The Tatranská Lomnica resort offers a mix of trails ideal for snowboarders of all levels. From wide, gentle slopes perfect for first attempts, through intermediate trails for technique refinement, to steep descents and occasional powder opportunities off-piste.
Snowboarding has been experiencing a renaissance in recent years. Young and old alike are discovering the magic of this sport – the feeling of freedom while riding, the style, and the community. If you have never stood on a snowboard or want to improve your technique, Premiere Ski School offers professional private snowboard lessons.
Private Snowboard Lessons at Premiere
Just as with skiing, we teach snowboarding exclusively through private lessons. The reason is simple – snowboarding is learned differently than skiing and an individual approach is even more important here. Everyone has a different stance (regular or goofy), different strengths, and different concerns. An instructor can adapt to all of these only in a private lesson.
Our snowboard instructors are APUL certified and have years of proven teaching experience. They speak Slovak, Czech, Polish, and English, so communication will not be an issue regardless of where you are coming from.
The price of a private snowboard lesson is the same as for skiing – from €44 for 60 minutes. We recommend beginners take at least 2-3 lessons, because snowboarding has a steeper learning curve than skiing – the first day is challenging, but the second day brings enormous progress.
What You Will Learn on a Snowboard
Here is the typical progression for snowboard instruction:
- Basic stance and balance – standing position on the board, determining your lead foot (regular vs. goofy)
- Fall-line sliding – riding straight down the slope on the toe edge and heel edge
- Braking – stopping using the board's edge
- Falling leaf – sliding down the slope forward and backward on one edge, like a falling leaf
- First turns – linking toe-side and heel-side edges, changing direction
- Carving – clean edge-to-edge turns for advanced riders
Most beginners can ride independently on easy trails after 2-3 lessons. The key is not giving up after the first day – snowboarding rewards persistence.
Where the Best Snowboard Conditions Are
For beginners, the ideal location is Jakubkova Meadow in Starý Smokovec – a gentle slope, soft snow, and plenty of space to practice without stress. Here you will learn the basics in a safe environment.
More advanced snowboarders will find what they are looking for at Tatranská Lomnica. The wider trails in the Buková and Štart zones are ideal for practicing turns. At Skalnaté Pleso you will find more challenging terrain, and in good snow conditions, freeride opportunities as well.
Snowboard vs. Skiing – What to Choose
If you are a complete novice and unsure whether to choose skiing or snowboarding, here is a brief comparison:
- Skiing – easier to start, faster initial progress, better on flat terrain and at lifts
- Snowboarding – harder first day but rapid progress from day two, greater freedom in deep snow, stylish feeling
Both are great sports and at Premiere Ski School we are happy to help you with either. If you are unsure, try both – we offer lessons in both disciplines. Many of our clients try both and then decide which suits them better.
You can rent snowboard equipment at our rental shop, where we have quality snowboards and boots available in various sizes. The school is open daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Contact us and start your snowboarding adventure in the High Tatras!
